Building your home
All you need to know about
buying a home
If you want to build a home to meet your needs and lifestyle, HomeStart can help get you started.
There are a number of HomeStart loans that offer a construction option. Call HomeStart today on 1300 636 878 to find out more.
Building a home with a loan from HomeStart means you can:
- reduce the amount you need upfront
- choose no loan repayments for the first 9 months
- save on stamp duty costs
- build the home you want
- buy land now to build on later.
Reduce the amount you need upfront
If you are a first home buyer, now is a great time to build your own home. The South Australian Government First Home Bonus Grant has been increased to up to $8,000 if you are constructing or purchasing a new home.
This, coupled with the federal First Home Owner Grant of up to $7,000, means that if you are a first home buyer wanting to build, you could be eligible for up to $15,000 in grants.
Choose no loan repayments for the first 9 months
You can choose not to make loan repayments for the first 9 months or until construction is complete, whichever comes first. This means you don’t need to cover loan repayments as well as rent or other payments on your current home.
Save on stamp duty costs
When you build, you only pay stamp duty on the land, which can be much less than what you pay on an existing home.
Build the home you want
You can build the home you want, where you want and with the licensed builder you choose. And when you build a new home, you’ll have less upfront maintenance costs.
